Jetting/gas/carb/whatttttt? alright, i know theres about a million of these threads already - but im at a bit of a loss with where to start irregardless.
89 lt250r with no airbox lid, stock filter for now, and FMF head pipe and silencer...
there have been a few nice days of 50-60 degrees now where ive tried starting it just to let it run for a bit - but i cant start it cold. Ive tried letting it sit off, kicking 2-4 times to prime it, and than turning it on and giving it 2 or 3 kicks, but it doesnt go on that. If it gets a shot of starter fluid in the airbox (i know i know bad practice) it starts up pretty easy. when just kicking, i can smell gas, so its getting there. Where is a good starting point on the air screw as well?
I used to do the same during winter but assumed it was normal with the cold - but now i realize its not. Once it runs its probably a little too rich as it smokes like crazy - but i know the mix thats in it from the last owner is pretty much horrible too.
I do not know what jets are in it now.
So where do i start? empty the fuel and get a new mix on elf fully synthetic first and jet to match that? (should i mix the 40:1 or 50:1 or whatever the bottle calls for instead of what the manual calls for?)
I would think the pilot is too lean and the main jet is too rich? but i dont really know - i havent had to do this before. Ive rebuilt the whole motor pretty easy but i cant figure out how to get it to run right - oh shit hahaha.
Thanks if anyone can help out somehow - im just not sure where to start. I would guess new gas first and work from there? but maybe its unneccessary too? Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to try and clear it all out first off.
Thanks anyone that gives some pointers! |
