| Not really sure if this is the correct part of the forum but here goes anyway. I snapped an engine mount bolt that goes into my banshee frame. I have taken bolts out before but this one is bad. I drilled it out like usual but afterwards couldnt find my good bolt extractor kit. I ended up using a different one which apparently is shit. The extractors are made from a chrome vanadium steel which is apparently a softer metal. Well that snapped off inside the hole as well and now I can seem to drill through it. Anyone have any ideas what type of drill bit to use that will drill it out with? The ones I have dont seem to cut into it good at all. This bolt is really jammed up and I need something strong for the job to get done correctly. Just thought I would ask |

| the main prob is the bolt is inside the mounting hole so I really have no way of just focusing on the extractor part that broke off. I need to pretty much just go straight through in one shot hopefully but i cant find any bit that seems to cut through it |

| a carbide or good set of cobalt drill bits. It really sucks when you break an extractor in the bolt hole. If you do get a good hole drilled in the extractor, you definitely have to use a torch, not your typical propane one, to heat the area up. It'll loosen that stuck bolt right up.

| Here is a trick some of the guys at work use. We have to extract broken stainless steel manifold bolts all the time, extractors break off pretty regularly, I like using bur bits but other guys will heat the broken extractor with a torche then give it a quick blast of air. You have to be careful but it will make the extractor very brittle and you can shatter it with a punch and take it out in pieces.

| Becareful if you do, I never do it cause you can screw things up bad if your not accurate. but it does work.

| one nice thing about what i do at work is i use cnc and manual ram EDM (electrical discharge machines )machines that can burn the bolts right out of any material without ever touching the threads or creating any heat in the part .but the part must be able to fit in a 30"square tank though and a whole frame would be too large .also i can make new precision perfectly sized tapped holes or shapes any size as deep as i want through anything like in very hard tool steel and even carbide . diamond and ruby are about the only materials i cant burn

| if your talking about the motor mount's on the frame that pass all the way through the frame ![]() when you drilled the hole through the bolt did you drill all the way through the bolt or just deep enough to get the extractor in? ifall the way through, take something you can pound on (the drill bit you used to drill the hole in the first place or something the same diameter) and stick it in the hole on the outside of the frame and pound the broken extractor back out the way it came in. if not then drill a hole in from the outside of the frame through the back of the hole, then pound the broken extractor out. if your like me and shaved all your brackets off and welded up the holes so they dont go through anymore then your fucked unless you wanna drill em out again and mess up your paint/ powder coat...

| I used a kit from black and decker and it works just fine....you drill a whole in the broken bolt with a regular drill bit...then just use the screw extracting bit and back the bolt out at you normally would....i removed alot of stripped screws and bolts with it and think it is great.... |
