Default kick start suck

so when i kick the kick start down it will not spring back up to me. i have taken the case off and checked to see if the two notches were lined up and they were. the spring is on right i have double checked it many times and i have the repairer manual for it. do any of you know whats going on? its the only thing keeping me from starting it up. thanks gus

Try placing the kick shaft into the clutch cover and spinning it by hand to make sure there is no sticking/friction. Inspect the case boss that the shaft slides into for the same. MOST machines (you don't list yours) do not need the clutch cover installed to make the kickshaft work properly so you don't normally need to put it all back together to see if it works while looking for problems. You might also dissassemble the shaft and inspect for some debris binding it up.

I have a 1987 lt250r if that helps any. when the cover is off it will work just fine but when the cover is on it stops working. i have to pull it back up and its kind of stiff. hope that helps thats the only thing i have to figgure out to finish this project and getting ridding

well i did the same thing on my kick start,(cr500), when i put to think of a washer on the shaft, your cover i think is pressing too hard on the asembly, try losening the bolts and see if it will spring back up.. using a thinner gasket on the cover maybe??

yeah when i losen the bolts it will spring back up. where did you put the washer? im going to go look at it and try a few things. Thinner gasket arond the whole cover or the gasket that the kick start comes though? thanks for your help guys. please help more. if you have any ideas let me know im open to anything at this ponit.

well thinner gasket for the whole cover may be your problem, if you put a slightly thicker gasket for your whole cover it might get it enough slack to spring back up.

so just to keep u guys updated, i worked on it for 2 hours tonight and finaly got it working amazing. thanks for all your help! took me longer becuse i droped a washer behind the clutch and fly wheel and i did other things too to get ready for some driving.
