| I'm in the market for a helmet and don't want some cheap crap protecting my nugget. I am not looking to buy a $600 helmet, but want something made somewhere with a little better standards. Thanks

| True, I don't need a $600 helmet. But I just want something MADE in Europe or North America. I don't care where the company is from, just where they make their stuff. Asia can't even make kids toys right (lead paint among other things), how can I expect them to keep my head safe? Ya know?

| The big thing is to make sure to have it D.O.T. approved.

| if you're buying a helmet, id go for a name brand one. then you're pretty damn well safe. Thor makes nice helmets, but they're just HJC helmets on the inside. I know ONE industries are pretty nice helmets, and they're only around 200 dollars. Check out Craigslist and ebay and stuff, you may be able to find a nice one (Troy Lee Designs, Shoei, Arai, Bell) for pretty cheap. Basically, get a name brand one, and when you're buying a helmet, you get what you pay for. I know I'd spend 350 bucks on helmet to keep my noggin safe.

| Like everyone else has said, make sure the helmet is DOT and Snell approved. Regardless of who makes it, the DOT and Snell approval logos are there for a reason. The helmet has undergone rigorous testing to get those marks of approval, and DOT and Snell didn't change the tests for cheaper or more expensive helmets as the tests are standardized. I actually read an artical in QU4D magazine about helmets a while back. I'll have to dig it up and see if I can find any more useful information.
