i have blown dents out of exspansion chambers before, its no myth. I simply formed up a bung for the pipe out let then hose clamped it to the pipe. the header end i used a plumpers exspansion plug with a valve core from an old inner tube gooped in with a nut either side. i tryiled different psi between 30-50 psi. Remember as u heat the pipe the pressure will increase so keep an eye on it. i used an oxy torch to apply the heat take your time and work from the centre of the dent outwards . good luck |

| I have a freind that owns an exhaust shop and i have seen him remove a dent from his fmf by pluging the ends after filling with water and placing the pipe in the freezer.it worked for him.

| Four things to think about. #1 the outside finish on the pipe is already messed up so your cheaper route would be the spot weld & pull the dent out, sand the weld spots off being carefull not to sand to much & then re-finish the outside. #2 the fill with water & freeze deal, water when frozen wont have a certian place it expands when its freezing, its one big freeze. It may pop the dent out & it may have worked on some pipes before with good results, but will you have the same size pipe after the process is finished, doughtfull & you may end up with a ripped seam to boot. #3 The plug, fill with air & heat up deal, I could see that working right well if you heat the spot to near cherry red, but, dont forget the build up of carbon, gas & oil in the inside of that pipe. The heat will create a gasous fume inside & all it needs is a spark or a red hot spot to ignite. #4 Sence you cant buy that pipe anymore, you realy think the 100.00 it would cost to send it to the dent man to repair it would be to much to pay. Your only trouble would be boxxing it up & taking it to a UPS shipping point. Dents or dings do make a difference in the performance of a pipe, even something like that carbon build up or a weld joint if it protrudes inside the pipe to much will have an affect on the wave flow. Pipes are all about sizes & shapes of those cone pieces to make the pulse wave travel through the inside of the pipe in a certian way. Something inside the pipe thats not smooth will cause the wave to act different in that area disrupting the wave flow. Be this something that is very small to the whole sceem of things, just changeing the wave that little bit might not seam like much & something the rider might not even feel, but you combine a bunch of those little things wrong all together & soon your running at the rear of the pack in a race. | i was told by a very reliable source that if you clog both ends up good and tight(somehow?)that you just apply heat to the dent and the heating of the air inside the pipe will expand and push out the dent.Sounds logical but have never tried it.I had a good dent in my 90 yz250 pipe and its a pro-circut pipe -bike isnt worth putting a new pipe on (if i could even find one)but i just welded a couple of bolts on and tried to beat and pull it out-(needed a slide hammer!) and ground off the excess.I got it really close but the metal was getting weak and ripping through. Its good enough though, although the finish is ruint the pipe definatly flows better! hope this helps |

| well it is a bomb trust me i am not jokeing me and my neighbor tried this with pluging the pipe at one end making a fitting at the other so we could apply air pressure well i was heating it up and the oil and carbon light on fire and blew up split the pipe down a weld blew out a plug that nailed my moms truck it had a good dent in it fuk was it scary the pipe was screwed up so i shaped it back welded it up now it has a works finish with a little rust mixed in lool but it gave him a little more power at my moms trucks expense
