| Greetings , I must say after visiting this site for multiple topics that have helped me learn about my 87 LT 500R A general question that I have been asking my self is that I am unaware of any benifits of wrapping a expansion chamber of my 2 stroke with heat wrap.I know in 4 strokes there are a few i.e. scavenging, thermal insulating, acoustic damping. Now the 2 stroke, I know heat is a bigger enemy, the expansion chamber is not only for flow but also for the sound pulses. Would there be any benifit for this wrap on a two stroke? Will there be a neg. effect on the sound pulses. May be too much heat build up in exhaust . I know I am going alittle heavy on my first post, but can any one make this subject any clearer to me and maybe some other 2 stroke lovers like everything else that I have found so far on this forum. I may have missed this topic scouring around if so sorry, please redirect me . LT 500'S GO- BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BRRRRRAAPP!!!!!!! BANSHEE'S GO -PA' DING PA'DING PA'DING PA'DING PA'DING RAAAAANTTT!!!!!!! BLASTERS GO-TING TING TING TING TING TING TING WEEEENTTT!!!!!!! The rest I am waiting to come across to hear.............. |

| i have never seen anyone wrap an exp. chamber on a 2-stroke before, nor do i have an answer for you as far as the pros & cons of doing this, but i do know that with all the r & d that has gone into developing 2-stroke horse power that probably has bean tried and didnt work or else it would definatly be on the performance to do list. jmo.....

| I am thinking the outside is cool- the inside the inside would be hotter than usual Hot gasses have higher velocity when flowing increasing the scavanging effect in some forms of racing i have seen exhaust wrap used -unfortunately all 4 stoke I am just trying to some up with some neg effects it may have on a two strokes |

| my guess is that trapping heat inside the pipes of a 2-stroke is not a good idea. because heat is a enemy of a pinger and pingers dont have electric fans to help keep them cool in slower trail type riding conditions, more commonly known to a 4-poke.

| hmmmmmm good point |

| idk, I heard about this ceramic coating to put on the head that keeps the head cooler, there fore raising the exhaust gas temperature and that was supposed to give you more power so i could see heat wrap working.

| After running around the dunes or a 30 mile trail ride, these 2 stroke headers are boiling hot. But cool down in minutes. Keeping those headers wrapped.... Wouldn't that keep the pipes from cooling down?

| well my opinion is i wouldnt wrap it cause look at motocross and supercross tha little bit of 2 strokes that u see dont run heat wrap on there exhaust now it isnt to say it wouldnt work but tha best way to find out is to do it but if u do record tha stock water and cyl temp then wrap tha exhaust and see if tha water and cyl run any hotter or colder and then get back to us and update us

| I do it. I use it to keep my plastics from melting and in theory to keep hot air from the pipe off my motor. Am I wrong? I can be but someone tell me why. ![]() ![]()
