Default unpainted pipes and rust

Just e-mailed toomey racing to see if their unpainted t5 pipes have any kind of protective coat to prevent rust, he e-mailed me back saying that they rust instantly, especially at the coast. he said I'd have to either clean them with a scrub pad and coat them with WD40, or paint them, or plate them... Is there anyone here with unpainted pipes that found a solution to this? Maybe the money I would save wouldn't really matter anyways if my pipes are just going to rust. It's 120 dollars more to buy chrome t5's. I'd rather get the unpainted if I could find a good way to keep them from rusting. Anyone have an opinion?

Thanks

you could build a nickel plater and plate them your self. all you need is a tub of distilled water big enough to fit them in, a battery charger and some bars of nickel wich can be bought for next to nothing. ill try to find a link.

or you could spray them with black high-temp paint...

if you decide to apint them, just make sure its some kind of high-temp paint...I'm sure you probably know that, I'm just making sure to save yourself some headache

You can get high temp paint that is made for exhaust. I am sure that 2 stroke pipes don't get as hot as headers. I painted a set of headers once with that paint and they looked good for over a year of every day driving.

I looked at those zinc plating links, I don't know how well it would work on headers though. The temperatures get really high, plus zinc and steel might expand at different rates, which may cause the zinc to chip off or something. hmmm, maybe if someone has actually tried it on some headers, then I might think about trying it. Does anyone have any good links where you can buy different exhaust paints?

Yea, all I can find that will withstand really high temperatures is black paint. I think I'm gonna just save a little more money and go for chrome pipes.
