That thing's gonna be one bad ass trike man, I restored my 84 also but I used the stock color scheme and didn't do any polishing except internally on the cylinder head, it started out as a normal rider but I did do some other mods now it's for the dirt drags
Heres a pic of the 300r motor I built for it

And here's the bike just sitting there complete at the drags

well i was told my motor had work done to it
and now i believe it because it wont even run on the stock carb
it came with a huge carb onit and i thought that i should try out a stock carb and when i kick it over i have to hold it atleast half throttle to keep it running

the carb that it came with is so big that th stock one can almost fit inside it
so it must be a 38-39mm that is on it and it has a 260 size jet in it

Wow looks like you've got an aftermarket rear axle in that thing, the reason I noticed is cause the stock ones narrow down towards the splines were the hubs slide on, that one looks to be the same width right up to the hub. It's easy to find aftermarket rear axles for the 81-82 R's and the 85-86 as well, "new or used" but for the 83-84 R's it's very rare, I rarely even see a used one.
