I have a 2003 cr250 and it looks to have the stock throttle tube. What type of grips will fit other than the stock ones please? The throttle tube has that annoying flange right next to the housing and it seems the stock grips have a groove inside to accommodate the flange. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Sid

Guys, I appreciate the replys but I do know how to put grips on. It is this little molded flange that is on the plastic tube that will prevent a grip from going completely on. The only way I can see a grip sliding all the way on(to the bar end) is if there is a groove molded into the grip to let the flange set into or like on a stock honda grip or you sand or cut the flange down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Sid

Sid, you don't need to worry about that flange, it's there for the stock grips but makes no difference if aftermarket grips go over it or not, just make sure you put the correct size grip on the correct side of the bars. AND then put some grip wire on three places on each grip. (that'll prevent them from slipping or moving on the bars). It's an easy process so don't stress. Have fun.

If say a Scott grip or a Renthal grip does NOT have the groove recessed into the grip for the flange then there will be a hump or bump where the flange sticks up under the grip. I'd imagine that would be uncomfortable to ride with. Maybe I'm not explaining myself correctly. If you slide the new non-stock grip over the throttle tube all the way it has to go past that flange so the grip will go all the way to the throttle tube end. The flange is in the way if there is no groove in the grip. I do the safety wire thing and always have. Thanks for the tip anyway. I also use gaskcinch for my grip glue. Sid

hate to interject, but hasnt anyone ever heard of gasoline?!?! we all have it.. theres no reason to buy grip glue and saftey wire and all that other crap, thats retarded, put a little gas in a cup, pour a tiny bit inside the grip, swish it around make sure it coats the whole inside, dump out the extra and slide it on quick, within a few mins it will be stuck on there hard as a rock and never come off, i have to cut mine off with a knife and it comes off in pieces, it melts the rubber a bit and seals it up so tight itll never move, if u do it right, grip glue always come lose when it gets wet or just after a while,,, and saftey wire is retarded.

hey sid, i see what you saying about the flange sticking up under the grip, just push the grip up until the flange, I checked on mine and it doesn't go over the flange and I don't feel and difference when I ride. As for the glue, any adhesive will do. Glad to hear you use the wire, best to be safe than sorry and fall because your grip slipped off, THAT would be retarded......

Ahhhhh, NOW you see what I mean Ryan. The grip I am trying to put on is the ones I have always used, Scott hurricane grips. If you stop the grip at the flange you have approximately a 1/2" of grip hanging off the throttle tube. I am use to and like my grips right up to the end of the plastic throttle tube and almost touching the throttle housing. When you stop at the flange half inch hangs off and you have just about the same amount of gap between the housing and the grip also. I am thinking of just grinding or sanding off the flange or just getting an aftermarket throttle tube. What do you think? Thanks for putting up with me and seeing what I am talking about. Although I have never tried the gasoline trick, it sounds interesting to say the least.Sid

Cool beans!!!!! I think your best bet would be to grind/sand that flange off, (depends on how much a new throttle tube would cost). Hope you come right for the weekend. Anything to help a fellow Honda rider out!!!!
