Mikuni carb or air striker

I just got a mikuni 38mm flatside carb. Someone told me that these carbs were not that good is that true. if so I can get a 38mm air striker but what would be a good price. i gave $60 for the mikuni . Got one more question what do you guys think about trying to fit a cr250 cylinder with a power valve on my 86 250r what mods would have to be made
