Default Big Bore Sleve ears?

What is the consequence of removing the sleeve ears off of a big bore cylinder sleeve so that it can fit into a bottom end that has not been machined for the big bore sleeve ears?

I bought a 330 ESR big bore motor used, the previous owner said it can be bored to 350cc, however when I received this engine in the mail he then told me the cases were not machined. I was then curious because I believe it is not possible to achieve 350cc with a stock bottom end, so I removed the cylinder to discover that he had removed a good deal of the sleeve ears so that the 330cc-350cc cylinder can fit into the cases that were not machined?

What are the consequences of running this hacked up sleeve? Please help?

the ears could break off. though i just recently heard of other peeple completly removing the sleeve ears and bolting it to a unmodified bottom end and calling it good.... seems risky...

ESR does this and sells it as a 330 bolt on that requires no case machining. The sleeve is machined only to the depth of the base spacer.

Thanks jon370r,
do you know what the largest big bore piston I can jam in an unmodified bottom end? Currently there the sleeve is bored to 76.5mm, the piston seems to have very little clearance between the unmodified cases. Thanks

I thought it was only two, maybe thats two after the first one. Its a better idea to simply have the cases machined, how hard is it to split them really, its cheap for the machining too. You could have it resleaved to 350 if you wanted but the cases would need to be machined.

and i;d have to question one thing abut the 350 big bore... 100cc's more and the same size transfer runner.... i dont; see the transfer runner being able to supply a 350CC with the fuel /air mixture needed to perform at high RPM.... anythign over about 7,000 RPM
