Question any sugestions for a motor swap?

im currently contemplating putting a different motor in my 86 trx250r. i love the old 250 but ive been having problems with it the past three seasons (two fractured case halfs) and i was just wondering if anybody had any input on swaping for a bigger motor vs rebuilding the 250. i just want to know what im about to get myself into before i actually do it and whether its gonna be worth it or not. i imagine it cant be too hard but ive never swaped for a totally different motor like this before. thanx

hey, you say its busted the case twice, well why is it busting, is it cuz the chain is comming off and hitting it? well if thats the case, are you running one of those chain guards/case saver things?

i think 250R motors are the shizz.... i think you should rebuild... you have a serious prob whatever it is if yer cracking cases..... i don't get that.....

if you want bigger you could always go with a big bore 310 or 330 and put a stuffer crank in to bump up the displacement a little more and give you more bottom end grunt.....

well whats happening is kinda screwy when i bought the quad in 99 it was completly bone stock. ive since added a pipe jets reeds and a few other misc things like that. three summers ago the thing started runnin like absolute shit. i found out that i was drawin a shit load of crankcase oil into my cylinder. i took it to majic racing in pontiac mi and i turned out that i had hairline cracks in one of my case halfs so i obviously replaced it it ran like a rape date for one season. now its back to doin the same thing with just as much oil in the cylinder as before
and im not sure if it would be easier to rebuild or just slap something bigger in there. any idea what the hells goin on? ive herd its kind of a typical thing for 250s but i dont know y

i havent heard that any motor has problems with that, either your gasket is blowing through or your getting shitty cases put on it.

i just dont see how your case would get hairline cracks in it, that just doesnt make sence, cuz if your case is gonna crack they will bust all to hell from what iv seen and heard about.

thats what i thought but i saw my old one the first time it went and it was like a spider web of little tiny cracks kinda weird. the dude at majics where i had it built said hes seen a few come through his shop like that. from what ive herd i guess sometimes they get fituged just enough to start crackin n leaking but dont weaken enough to completly blow apart like u said. i dont get it either. i dont know ive never really had to get this deep into a 2stroke like this before thats y im wonderin what the hell is goin on 2
