Default questions about 250r porting?

I plan on getting my 250r ported sometime soon or when it comes time to rebuild the top end. As far as I know, my motor is fresh and pretty close to stock. I haven't touched one bolt or nut on the motor cause its been running awesome since the day I bought it and still is and I just dont want to mess it up, even though I get very tempted to pull the head and have a look inside

Im running the stock pipe that came on it, but I plan on getting a esr trx 5 sometime for it, already have a fmf sliencer. I am not looking to get some aftermarket ported big bore cylinder or anything like that. I just want to have my stock cylinder ported only. Im looking for some good all around porting that will give more mid and top end power, but if possible without taking any of the low end torque away.

Im kinda interested in rossier engineering for porting, does anyone know much about em or have any experience with their porting or service? on their site they got a "ported top end kit" for $450, which includes porting, head mod, and complete top end kit, which really sounds like a deal to me!

but I got a question though, will I be able to tell a big gain in power from what I got now? which I would discribe as a pretty mild power band. is it ok to run the stock carb with a ported stock cylinder or would a larger carb help unleash more power? and later on If I ever need to rebuild the bottom end, would a stroker crank be a good idea to help get even more power from it?

Yes you will notice a major difference. Possibly the weakest link on the R is the head setup, .100"+ Squish which should be around .040". An easy budget motor on a R is a simple MX port with a Approx .020' off the head and a CR gasket. Thats not ideal but is the biggest bang for the buck. Personally I would have it decked, ported, and have the stock head re cut.

You may want to think about a different pipe if you are really concerned with low end, the TRX5 is a skinny pipe but is by no means a low end pipe. I consider it the ideal dune pipe if that helps describe it some.

I wouldnt go with Rossi, or however you spell it. If you had a 450R then maybe I would think about it, they are mainly a 4stroke builder.

what about some of the big names like duncan racing or ct racing? Im guessing that the saying "you get what you pay for" deffinately applies to this, and im pretty sure their prices are a little higher that the rossier engineering porting.

I've looked that the duncan racing site and their "eliminator" porting is what I would get if I had to go with them. they seem to have the highest price though, and doesnt include a piston kit.
Ct racing's "national" porting kit also sounds pretty good for the price, which also includes a piston kit and everything, but I couldnt find much info about exactly what type of power it gives, which im looking for more mid and top end.

If anyone knows much about these it would really help me alot. i tried using the search button at the top but it doesnt work

I seem to remember not too long ago somebody saying that CT did good work, but their turn-around time is about as fast as snails f*ck, and their customer service isn't anything to be proud of. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

I would also PM E2S member Eviltwin. He does porting, and I haven't seen anybody unhappy with his work yet.

CT absolutely sucks unless your buddy buddy with Allan Knowles. Good luck with that. The Duncan Eliminator is a good port job, I ran one a long time ago on my Suzuki. It was a good port job, not worth $400 or whatever they charge now at all. Duncan will put a lot more time into your stuff than CT will. If you want an eliminator Port spec drop me a line, like I said I know what he does for them. Not exactly optimum in my opinion, kind of a wierd exhaust port setup but like I said it works pretty good. A single stage exhaust port curved with staged transfers would be better in my opinion but thats just my .02 Its only going to work so good without a good head setup and without a good ignition. Not to mention the other usual bolt ons.

i am looking into porting my 250r too. i called up LRD racing and they said that they charge $240 to port your cylinder if you send it in to them. no clue what kind of job they do. the guy that would port it , Aaren(pretty sure it aarren not aarron) or something like that, sounds familiar though from reading "dirtwheels" mag.

i would be able to help you out in the black science , tell me what you would like and I will port your cylinder to match the pipe, intake, carb size check my site out we are one of the fastest growing porting companies on the web. I custom hand port all of my cylinders then flow test them hydraulicly.

all of the big name companies hire people to do the work for them. You wont get doug gust's port job or rickies from pro circuit.Just hope it's not the last one of the day on friday. They look at numbers they really dont care if your machine preforms to its best .
