Top end tick

I am working on an 89 trx and it has an 86 3 wheeler engine in it he bouhgt off ebay, my problem is that there is a tick on the top. It is a consistant tick at idle and the speeds with the rpm of the engine. It has a stock head and run 91 octane at 40:1. when you shut off the ignition the tick goes away, even though the engine freewheels for a split secound. I'm lost.....

I'm not sure what kind of TRX your talking about. If it's a fourstroke, your valves need adjusted. It's not real serious, but needs to be taken care of pretty soon. If it's a two-stroke, use higher octane. Some noise is normal.
