Default Clutch Wont Engage

I put new plates and springs in my clutch and removed the basket to check all the parts. Now it is back together and there is too much play on the clutch arm by the cable no matter how tight the cable is adjusted. The ball that is supposed to be at the end of the push rod was missing but I had been running it like that the last 3 months and it seemed to work fine. Any clue?????????

what kind of quad do you have? if there is a pushrod then the ball bearing at the end must be there. the ball missing in most cases will enable 3/8 of an inch or so of play. thats alot.

i would venture a guess and say the basket isn't oriented properly, it only sits all the way back against 2 places, 180 degrees apart
