Default winter engine rebuild

Hello to all.....new member here who has been reading these forums for a long time for help with my 1986 250r.

I want to have my engine gone over this winter/ ported/ head work/ new gaskets between cases to clear up oil leak, new clutch, etc.

If any members here could reccomend someone to do the labor for me I would greatly appreciate it. I have written to one member who I think might be able to help me out, but please anyone feel free to e-mail me suggestions for where to turn.

I have looked at ESR, Duncan, etc. for their kits, but i thought i would check here a trustworthy 250r addict to send my business too. Basically being a father of 2 year old twins, I want to get the most bang for the buck without getting ripped off from the big companies...ha ha.

I ride mostly mx /trails, cornfields for serious play riding....no real racing. Also would like to stay within regular high octane gas....not full on race gas. I like the high revving 86' short rod as well, so any suggestions for engine plans/ cab sizes etc. would be great to see.

Currently it runs a FMF fatty pipe, stock kehin carb, boyenson reed valves, and no porting or any good mods....just a k&n filter.....the rest of bike is great...just needs a strong engine to complete it.

Thanks so much and merry christmas to all !!!!!!!!

You can get porting done by any of the popular race shops (lrd, duncan,ct, ect) and still run pump gas. I've had around 10 motors built ( different machines) and I always run pump gas. You just need to tell whoever does it that you want to run pump gas. If your looking for more power with the R, put on a 38mm airstryler carb and something like an lrd or dyno port pipe. You'd be amazed at the difference!
