| I am in the process of working over my 250r and noticed the swingarm has a crack in it. I also need bearings and bushing all around. I am looking at the ebay route and just replacing everything. The question is what is the difference between old 86-87 (mine is an 87) and the newer one. I see they have a solid bar across. Can I just remove the engine mount and hook it up or is some fabrication needed? You guys rock for info!!! Thanks Brian Also for aftermarket who makes a decent one, or are they all better than stock? I ride mostly trails/desert, should that be a +1? |

| im running an 89 motor with an 89 frame with 86 swing arm ... you just have to go get the bracket from honda ... all you really need to do is cut the current bracket off that is attached to the frame and buy the 86 bracket that goes on your swingarm bolt

| '86-'87 frame with an '88-'89 swingarm: add the lower motor mount tabss to the frame. '88-'89 frame with an '86-'87 swingarm: cut the rear lower arms off of the rear mount bracket (RECOMMENDED) or cut the rear lower mount tabs off of the frame. |

| Ths is the best way to do it. If you have an 86/87 swingarm but want to use it on the newer 88/89 frame you dont need to cunt ANYTHING off of your frame. All you need to do is put the swinger on. The motor mounts that work with the old frames that sits on the swingarm pivot bolt is useless on the new frames because the newer frames already have the motor mounts on the frame. So why would you want to cut those off to use the mount that sits on the pivot bolt? Also the 88/89 swinger cant be used on the older bikes unless you WELD on new mounts to the frame. Thats the only GOOD way of doing it.

| Rich - I think you are forgetting about the HUGE gap that is occupied by the 86/87 rear engine mount bracket in the 86/87 swingarm. When using an 86/87 swingarm on an 88/89 frame you have to either cut the lower arms off of the [/b]bracket or the mount tabs off of the frame if the 86/87 bracket is used to take up the space in the 86/87 swingarm. The only way to NOT cut anything OEM when using an 86/87 swingarm on an 88/89 frame is to subsititute a section of tubing to replace the 86/87 rear engine mount bracket that goes THROUGH the swingarm. Yes, an 86/87 swingarm can be mounted to an 88/89 frame without the 86/87 rear motor mount bracket BUT the inner seals and bearings will "walk" out of the swingarm and cause DAMAGE. Yes, I have actual experience with these setups. My old gusseted '86 frame used an 88/89 LSR swingarm. Last edited by TRX-RMXJapan; 03-19-2007 at 05:20 AM. |

Ahh yes well I suppse I left that part out. Thats how I run my 88, with an 86 swinger and a tube....its the easiest way. IMO
