| So I picked up my new used R on Monday. When I went to pick it up I asked all the right questions and all, the guy answered them all correct, everything seemed all good, quad started on 3rd or 4th kick, wouldn't idle because he said it was sitting for 5 months and the carb was prob. clogged. So I get it home and dig a lil deeper into it. First thing I find is the Tranny Fluid is White...yep, water got into somehow, contaminated it, and that's why it shifts so hard...NOT because of the performance clutch and gears the seller "says" it has. So now I'm pissed and I dig into the quad deeper. Says is has 2 hours on a FRESH REBUILD...OH YEA?? ![]() ![]() Says it has CARBON FIBER reeds...OH YEA?? ![]() Here's the CRAP gummed up in all the water jackets... ![]() ...oh yea, and the bottom of the shock mount had the bolt through it, but NO NUT ON THE END, so i could have just fell out in the middle of the trail....and the swing arm was SUPPOSEDLY custom powder coated, but yet when i sprayed brake cleaner on it to get all the gunk and grime off, the powder coating dissolved and ended up on my garage floor. So now I've gone through the whole R...gonna replace pretty much EVERYTHING and make it almost a brand new R.

| Here's how the Radiator Scoops are held to the frame at the top..are they supposed to be like this or should there be tabs / mounting bracket? ![]()

| Wow I guess globbing some shit on the clutch side case over the coolant weep hole that lets ya know if the mechanical seal is bad is one way to stop the leak. LOL! I have old pistons that have been ran hard for over a year that don't look half as bad as that one. It looks like you should have checked the motor closer so that you could have seen the case "fixes". On the bright side of things it looks like your gonna have a bunch of extra motor parts(from the old motor if any of them are any good). The radiator scoops are supposed to have bracket that hold them in place. I have an 86 frame and a 87 frame and my 87 has the brackets welded to the frame so maybe its an 86 since they are not attached. It might be an 86 and that could be another thing that seller lied to you about(like that "new" piston and those "carbon fiber" reeds. Also that piston is the short rod 86 style piston. Long rod(87 up) pistons have a boost port cut into them on the intake side. The paint must have been automotive paint and clear--it doesn't like carb cleaner. | seriously...what is it with people and the obsession of squirting sealer on every thing. pisses me off to no end. same thing with form-a-gasket. what the hell...go online and buy the correct gaskets. sorry to hear bout that bro surprises like the ones in the pictures are never fun. good luck with the restoration...let us know if you ever need help!

| what can i look for on the frame to try and find out what year it is?? where is a vin located? can i decode it that way and find out?
