Default Cant shift

O.k. I was riding down the road yesterday in 6th gear. when i gave it gas it was like i was out of gear somehow ,it would rev but it wouldnt pick up speed. so i shifted down and it went back in gear. now for some reason it is stuck in 5th or 6th gear and i cant shift out of it. something tells me its time to split the case but i figured i would get some other opinions first. thanks for the help

Nope I don't look at that part. I look at all the new threads since the last time I logged in.

I would start by draining the fluids and have a look under the right side engine cover. Also check to make sure the shift lever isn't loose on the shaft. If you don't find anything lying in the bottom of the engine under that cover it sounds like a spring broke either on the shift shaft itself or on the shift drum star actuator.
