Default 250r suspension ?'s

Ok so I got my 87r frame all painted and ready to put back together when I flipped over my swingarm to replace the linkage bearings and the swingarm is cracked in 3 different places. Now I know 400ex and 250r carriers are the same so will a 400ex axle work also? If I switch to a 88-89 swingarm, will all of my shock linkage fit or will I need 88-89 linkage? And the rear motor mount that the swingarm pivot bolt goes through, will that need to be changed also? Any input/help is greatly appreciated because I am getting so pissed at this thing, every time I turn around I find something else wrong!

You can't add the 88/89 swingarm to your older frame unless you weld in a motor mount to replace the one that works with the older style swingarm. The linkages are the same basically but one part of the linkage is a little longer. It can be used but it changes the height of the rear end. As far as the 400ex axle goes I dont really know. Someone else probably can help with that.

Your 87 frame is not setup for an 88-89 swingarm. That swingarm will not allow you to run the motor mount bracket the old swingarm attached to. So basically you'd be losing the only support point at the rear of the motor. Some people have welded in an 88-89 style cross bar to mount to the upper support so they can get the shorter swingarm.

Cross reference the part numbers at servicehonda.com, but I think the 87-89 linkages are the same lengths. 86 has a longer "dogbone".

Yeah after I did some research I found that the 88-89 swingarm won't work without some fabrication. Thanks for the help guys. I'll figure something out...probably just get another 86-87 swingarm.

how about for an atc? I found a +3 swing arm for a 88 so it would be +2 for me. What would I have to do? Also if I make this work which shock should I use?- the same tall one or the newer shorter one and are the links the same? I know I'll have to change the axle and carrier which I was going to do anyway- I just need to know about the mounting and suspesion.
