Cool help with 250R

alright i have my stock 250r and it has an fmf fatty pipe on it. and i noticed ever since i got and installed the pipe it has had a leak. at first it was like smoke leaking through the header and were it meets the expansion cgamber now there is some black goo coming out of the header tube at the exhaust flange and the expansion tube joint. i was wondering whati could do to fix this and stop it from leaking. i paln to also replace my pipe as i was told it was an inferior pipe even though it makes more power than stock. i will also be porting and rebuilding my top end. so which pipe would you guys reccomend?? i ride mostly sand and sometimes dirt. i have the stock carb and knn replacement filter and power core 2 silencer. and what changes would i need to make if i port my cylinder?? would i need to change ll the jets or just the main and slow jet? thanks again!

As far as the leak goes, you might want to look into an aftermarket billet exhaust flange with dual o-rings. This will create a better seal than stock. I would also add RTV high temp silicone to all of the pipe joints, e.g. where the header pipe meets the exhaust flange, and where the header pipe meets the expansion chamber.

Which pipe you get really depends on the type of porting you get done to the cylinder. From the type of riding that you do it sounds like a midrange, or midrange-upper midrange porting would be your best bet. If that is the case I would highly recommend the ESR TRX5. I switched from an FMF Fatty to the TRX5 and love it. My R has an aggressive trail/dune port, which is basically a mid-upper midrange port, performed by Bob of RB Racing.

With any kind of modifications you do to your engine you will always want to check your jetting and re-jet accordingly.

I would also highly recommend that your next modification be to swap out the stock PJ carb for a 38 PWK, 38 PWK A/S, or 39 PWK. It will make your life a lot easier, and it'll make your R run better too

and probally a rad valve as well. that sound good to you fellas??

at the split in the pipe there are high temp o-rings that can be changed and/or you can also use high temp RTV silicone to help.
They can also leak at the exhaust flange so a little rtv can help there to.
The fattys may not be the best anymore but are still a great all around pipe.
