Question Cracked Case

Out ridn stupid, chain pops and chain guard is off. jams shift lever down cracks the case. crack is 1in wide 2in long. I have the peice (kinda V shaped) Can this be welded back on? and will the weld be strong enough?

Take some pics and post it. Alot of things can be welded. I dont know about that though, cause if its where you described you have a seal there that will probably always leak. I'd get a used case, get em on e-bay for 100-150

i had my case TIG welded back together in the exact same place and it is holding up perfect.

If you have the part and the case and both broken pieces are in good shape, take them to a marine repair shop that does rebuilding of props and drives. I found these guys are experts in repairing aluminum parts because this is what they work with mostly. Just a thought. Ive done it a couple times, comes back in good shape. Usually will tell you right away if it cant be saved and save you wasting money. If not, several sites have new and used case halves.
