Default Air Intake Pipe on 86R, Is it needed?

Ok so there is an intake pipe that runs from the front of the bike under the gas tank then connects to the airbox, I am running with no lid on the box so would it be ok to remove that tube and block off the opening on the box? It only weighs a couple pounds but I trying to get the weight donw as much as I can.

i dont run that.. i just blocked the whole and run no lid..

yea its ok to block it off. I run mine, as it it just an extra way to get air to the motor, and plus I sometimes run my airbox lid when ever I ride when its very muddy or wet.

but make sure you take off the voltage regulator and mount it some where else... i tried it with out it and it ruins your lights and stuff...
