I have a 1986 TRX which keeps fouling plugs. The bike runs real good and I can trail ride for a few hours. When I foul the plug I change it and the new one does not last near as long as the first and it get worse with time. I have been told that it is the stator and or the trigger pickup. I have been dealing with this for a while and it is driving me crazy. At first I thought that it was jet related so I played around with them. I replaced the reeds and the compression is over 120. The bike starts with just one kick. I think it may be an intermitting ignition which is aggravated by heat.
I have a good stock ignition for sale, complete with flywheel, stator, coil, and wire harness. it all works fine and was on my bike untill I upgraded to a cr250 ignition. if you think you might need any parts let me know.
And welcome to E2S also.

well first off what is ur mix ratio second what type or mix oil do u run and third is what heat range and plug color is it? u might be mixing too rich or be running a marine 2 stroke mix y i said that is cause down here every body has a boat and every body has at leats 1 gallon or 2 sittin around and trust me ive done it but marine oil will foul out a plug fast but if none of that is it try bumping up tha heat rage on tha plug u kno but check to see that ur not too rich on ur carb but if none of that works then i would try replacing ur ignition system

How hard was it to put the CR ignition on the TRX? Will a 1987 work just as good?
there is a pretty big difference between the stock trx ignition and the cr ignition, with the main difference being the shear difference in size/weight in the flywheel.
compared to stock, the cr ignition lets the motor rev insanely fast, like you just touch the throttle and it will rev to the moon. however because of the smaller and lighter flywheel you will lose some lowend grunt. you wont be able to putt-putt around in the yard with it cause it is very easy to stall. ive heard some say that it makes it a little harder to kick start, but I didnt notice any difference in mine. while riding it goes through the powerband much much quicker and revs out nice
