Default Stroker with 1986 cylinder?

Whats the best way to set up a +4mm stroker with a 1986 cylinder?
I cant find a stroker crank with the short rod. Could i use the newer piston in the 86 cylinder so i can use a longer rod?

Cylinders are the same for all years, besides port layout, direct bolt on to any yr bottom end as long as the crank yr and piston yr match.

The best way to go about it is, have the head cut for the added stroke, no spacer plate = sleeper, lol

Well i am wanting to run the stroker cranks, but they only come in the long rod version. So if i buy the crank i need to use the 89 piston, because the pin height is made for the longer rod.
Will the 89 piston and long rod crank combo work in the 86 cylinder?

Yes, Im pretty sure that works just fine. The question is, what bore are you on? 87-89 pistons only go to .080 over. PM Denny or Nick they'll know for sure.

seems like they would work because the 86 piston works in the 89

I have the +4 stroker in my 86 and had to use a spacer plate to get the stroker to work. We tried everything but had to tear it down and end up spacering it. Be prepared for major compression!!! We have to pull start mine, but once she is fired the stroker motor comes to life. My buddy just had a esr 310 big bore built as we are pretty even till 3rd gear im pulling away and gone. Gotta love a stroker with a great port job.

yep.... i would run a 86 piston... and a spacer plate... unless your bore is small enough to run the later style piston.... then you dont have to worry about the extra gasket all the time...
