Default 350 pv how reliable is it

i am thinking about putting a 350 pv running on race gas(high compression) on my 88 250 r it has a new crank and bearings with a lrd big bore exhaust and a 38 mm carb with v force 3 reeds i was wondering how reliable the motor would be and what would i have to change on my motor to accept this power gears, clutch, sprockets or could i leave this stuff alone and it will hold up to the power or not (i want a fast motor but a reliable motor that i dont have to work on all the time )

it will be reliable if you want to spend a good chunk of money on aftermarket transmission gears...

well i am pretty sure it would destroy the stock gears if you build it well. i would personally just get a 265 or 270 pv cylinder.... do you realy need much more than 55 hp????as far as clutch goes.... get some damn good springs and the clutch should hold up....

IMO the powervalve on a big bore is a waste of money. All the engine builders and tuners I talk to tell me ditch the pv and it will run better. You will lose power on the low end but gain it on the top. If you do decide to go with the PV stay away from the ESR, the valve is not big enough to acomplish what it is supposed to. I also had a pv failure in april the stop fell apart and let the valve fall down into the cylinder! it stopped quick!!! bent the shit out of the pv, buggered up the piston wich only had about 8 hours on it, just got the cylinder back from ESR today. I had them install a powervalve block off plug. No more powervalve!!!!!!!!!!

lol you dont need a 350 PV to pull a 700r... my 250 beats 450's, 660's, and 700's all the time and its just .60 stock stroke. I would say get a +4mm hot rods stroker crank and a good port job from FloTek. Get an ESR trx5 pipe and a 39mm carb with some V-force reeds or even ported stock cage you'll be fine with beating a 700.

I like the 330's(bolt-on's),that is a good reliable motor with more than enough HP to get a 700! Also your oem tranny will hold up fine. You may want to change to a hinson clutch kit,and go to a 40.5 carb. You'll have the raptor rider crying in no time!!!! The only problem you may have is wheelies,if you dont extend the swingarm, and that hurts in a drag!!I found that 4" is not enough on a 330,but 5-6" is perfect.Once you go to the 350-380cc's you need 8" to keep it down for the most part!Good luck!
