This is exactly what I'm looking for! Kicking a CR500 on a quad is a pain in.

It used to be a 4 stroke 350, but the motor is long gone.

oh dang! 50 bucks? whats the condition? you could part it on this site or any other, and make your money back times 4 or 5 easy, if its in good shape!.... you shouldnt have any trouble finding an engine bro! buy an old street bike, or new wrecked one.... what you want is a 500 or 600 engine outa a street bike! it will already have electric start, lights, everything you could want! it would be perfect.... street bike frames go out of style so damn quick, that you can hardly give them away when they are more tnen 10 years old! those are my thoughts on the situation!

But if you wanna go with the 250R... i will give you any info i find on the mod! i would think one of your first obsticles would be the kickstarter mechenizm itself! everybody knows that a kickstarter goes down, then back, down then back until the bike starts. But a starter will go round and round until the bike starts. is a 250R transmission capable of making the revolutions without having to back up? rather than bolt on a starter thing, you might need to remove the inner kicking mechanizm all together, and fab up a gear(that will make continual revoluetions), and maybe modify the clutch cover .....

Ive thought about that, with the bike motors, but too many people are doing it and the asking price is usually around 900. The 250r motor is in good shape, it is missing one maybe two teeth on the kick start post. Other than that, its not complete, but just needs to be rebuilt. Its in great shape other than that

another thing Im thinking about doing is getting rid of the transmission since the throttle on the pilot was originally designed for 1 speed. Go!! haha
Ive got some ideas but not sure how they'll work out. I guess its just trial and error at this point, but Ill take any advice you wanna give.
Thanks

I think you will have some power issues with the 250r engine in a pilot. power to weight being the key factor, and pilot's are not light. if it were me (i tend to swap engines in everything i own) id go for a cr500 powerplant. many are available on ebay as full kits (including electrical and carb) and they make a ton of power. it would be much more fun if it had a decnet amount of torque.
