Default cr125 questions

Hey everyone,
I have a 1997 kx100 that I am planning to trade for a non-working 1998 cr125.
I brought the idea up to my dad and he immediately said NO . I'm good with tools and would love the fun and experience of fixing this bike's engine.

If I were to sell my 1997 kx100 (im asking 600), and then bought a working 125 cc bike, the price tags would come out to about the same. A complete top end kit is around 150, with a cylinder replating/or resleeving (add 170-200). A working 125 cc bike is around 1500-1700 dollars. That means i would have to spend another 900-1100 dollars after I sell my kx100. If I traded my kx100 and spent around 400 max, I would only be out 1000 dollars, thats a savings of 500-700 dollars. Does this deal not make sense? Remember I am doing the work so there is no labor charge. There is a guy locally and willing to make this trade.

I now ask your opinions fellows.

Words from the owner:

I am pretty sure the top end is what it needs the motor is locked up im preatty sure its not the crank, the bike ran beutiful before it happened. The bike has alot of work like full pro circuit pipe, boyesen side covers(clutch and flywheel), v-force reed valve cage, works connection radiator braces, ceet gripper seat, applied racing triple clamps with oversized bars, brand new starcross rear tire, and a 2002 cr125 front fender

your gonna need a pipe for that thing too, so you might want to figure in the cost of one of those. the one on the bike has a big ass dent in it. a friend of mine had a cr125 that had a dent like that and it ran a little funky on the bottom end until he put a new pipe on. just my 2cent.
