Default Best TRX 250R Model??? 86,87,88,89

Alright guys, so I'm looking at purchasing a new quad, and have always been a fan of the classic 250R. I'm looking at a couple of different ones right now, and remember from a few years back hearing about differences between the different years for the quad. I believe most concerns came from the frame. Can anyone give me a little guidance or personal experiences? Thanks so much guys.

I think it is all about the look you desire more than anything. The 88 and 89 had an aluminum swingarm which cut off a minimal amount of weight. The front spindles on an 86-87 is one solid diameter and the 88-89 is tapered. I personally would go with the style you like if you have a preference. I have an 88 and I can basically tell you that stock frames are going to break. My frame has been welded a handful of times and it was only used for flat track only up until I bought it.....

That's the bottom line.....other than that they are both pretty much the same, engines have a little difference but that is no big deal either.

well the 88-89s have different crank and port work, aluminum swingarm... but i think the shocks are shorter on the 88-89... not sure though... and the rear motor mount is not mounted with the swing arm... they were a little bit shorter.... (front wheels to rear wheels) used differ tires.... differ colors.... Head light mounted in the front plastic instead of handlebars... that about all i know i would get a 89 if possible... thats my personal prefrence though
