Default CR250R help

My hubby and I just acquired an 89 honda cr250r... It ran fine but a few weeks later we had an issue.. The skirting on the cylinder sleeve and jug sheered off... Looking for a new jug we found one that is for his bike.. same year and all but it looks different... His doesnt have the ATAC powervalve assembly.... The only cylinder jugs we can find like that are the ATC/TRX jugs... So I was just wanting to make sure that the ATC/TRX jug will in fact work with no problems.. We dont have any pics of the jug because he cant remember what he did with it after he took it off... I was just wondering the advantages of doing this... or problems... or otherwise

Updating that hubby was just given an 86 TRX250R cylinder jug. I know that if a piston is from an 87 or higher a spacer plate will have to be used to accommodate the height... Are there any other mods we would need to make to make this work?
TIA

Well the jug on there right now has no powervalve... and we had thought about resleeving it except that the ears on the jug itself also got messed up... so we would have to get a new jug, new sleeve, have it pressed in, and everything... but like i said the closest things weve seen to what he has on there is the jug from a trx250r... he has no powervalve on there... ran great till the ears shattered... but i think that happened because it had been bored to the max amount making it weak

:shrugs: couldnt tell ya... We bought it about 2 months ago and until we had this problem it ran great... Looking online on ebay and other places for a jug we noticed that the jugs for his bike looked different than the one on it.. We then looked at the trx jugs and thats what his jug looks like... I have read on a forum cant remember if it was here or another site that the trx and cr jugs can be interchanged the only difference really being the powervalve.. So I am just trying to see if there are any extra steps we need to take to redo it this way... The mods done on this bike were all great.. it ran great, lots of power, to the point that when hubby first rode it he kinda got nervous about the power it had... So we would like to go with everything the way it was... Just want to make sure we do it right
