Default how much should the rod move

Im working on a 250r i have the top end off and im trying to check the rod bearing. (connects to crank)

how much movement if any at all should there be???

There is movement side to side but not up and down.

i wanna take it to the dunes this weekend.. wondering if its runnable like this..

The quad was in now running condition when i received. blown top end.
it was raced pretty hard.

Its a 86 trx250r

87 THRU 89 HAD A LONGER ROD BY 2MM

85.86 HAS THE SHORTER ROD

the crank should be fine if there is no up and down play then run in till it blows up
the side to side play is perfectly fine on a 250r crank

if you dont have any up and down movement you should be fine , i have ran them with side to side movement and have bought new cranks that had as much movement as the crank i replaced . its the up and down movement that kills the crank

Except for my newly rebuilt crank, everyone I've ever felt had side to side action goin on.
How did you check the up and down play? The best way I've found is pull up on the rod and at the same time smack down on it with your other hand.
If ya hear a click don't run it.
