Why make power half the time with a 4-stroke when you could make it all the time with a 2-stroke?

This is why it's easier to assemble stator (L) side down. You won't have this issue if you do it that way. Plus the heavy-ish crank will not be in your hands while you assemble the halves. The crank is press fit into the left side (at least it is supposed to be) so it makes it easy to slide the right side down which is not press fit. I'll say though that I've never done it the other way around, probably because the manual indicates leaving the guts in the left side.

I don't think you should need a case splitter to disassemble or re-assemble. An OEM crank is not tolerance fit on the right side and should slide right on and off likely after a little jarring from a rubber mallet at worst.
2cents!
