lights wont work?

i have a 86 atc 250r i went to turn on the light and nothing they were working before i have to clue where to start?help please

Do you have a test light?

bad lighting coil, bad regulator

take the actual light out and test it with a known working power source.

if nothing, test the connection to the light for voltage with a multimeter.

if nothing just keep working your way back, deeper into the guts of the electrical system. try and find a schematic of your light/electrical system on somehting like bike bandit. testing what has voltage and what doesnt.

yah ok i have a test light but no volt meter,how do i check the lighting coil and regulator with my test light?to make sure that there working.thanks

It should have two wires with metal prongs on the end?

Disconnect the wires to the light, or whatever you are testing, turn on the quad(the key so that the electrical system is running, not the engine) and the lights, then stick or touch one metal prong in the connector, and ground the other by touching it to the frame or the handlebars, engine block. The grounding wire should be on solid metal, nothing that carries current.

dude the bike has to be running for him to test the light socket for power!!

start the quad and hook the alligator to one prong and the point on the test light to the other if it glows the bulb is bad if no prob the regulator or a shorted wire

question would a bad light bulb make my front headlight,rear light now work?cuz thats wats happening.ill give that a try thanks for your help
