| I just bought a 1996 honda cr250r which had 1400$ worth of rebuilds recently done to it. New: gasket kit, crankshaft, piston, ring set, piston bearings, connecting rod, cylinder replate anyways, the other day i was riding it and it was very hard to startup at first, and when i finally got it started it didnt seem to pull as hard as normal. After riding for a little while i ended up letting it stall out and it never started back up again... I replaced the sparkplug and it still wont start ![]() It seems like its harder to kick then it used to be, and when i tried to push start it it the rear wheel would just lock up and not turn over at all. Any ideas as to what is wrong with it? |

| Do a compression check on the motor that is the first step to finding out if it the motor has issues. Sounds like something is not right in the motor

| what kind of piston is in it???? and did you take off riding it rather hard before the engine was warmed up????? |

| I'm not sure what kind of piston was put into it, i had a shop a do the work but i do have some part numbers if that is important.. I would sometimes ride without letting the engine totally warm up since i was in a residential area and didn't want to piss the neighbors off too bad. So i'd basically just start it up and let it run for a minute or two and ride. Looks like i'll probably eng up having to get it checked out at the shop since i don't know much about engines myself. |

| Im going where 370 is going on this one. It sounds like it tried to cold seize on you for some reason. |

| thanks for the info guys, would a compression check be relatively inexpensive? |

| yeah, just go to like an auto-zone, and you can buy a compression check tool for like 30 bucks at most.

| better yet go to sears.... they have a real nice compression gauge kit with all the lines and fittings.. i think mine was $47.... i'm thinking there was some kind of cold seizure... wierd that it didn't actually seize though?? |

| my 97 cr250 had a motor failure due to a cold sizure. my buddy jumped on it and took off without letting it warm up (dirty bastard). what happens it is the piston expands faster then the cyl can and it will cause the piston to start rubing on the cyl wall. in my case the top of the piston started to flake off and pices of it got stuck in the crank f*cking everything up. i would suggest doing your own work to save yourself some money.
