Default 1984 250r atc help

I have an '84 Honda 250r, It's been in my family for as long as I can remember. About 3 weeks ago I made a trip to St. Anthony's dunes in Idaho and couldn't make it up the biggest hill I've ever seen (choke cherry I think). Anyway, I was wondering what mods other then Air Filter and Exaust I could do to try and turn someheads. It is all stock right now. I am in the process of buying a K&N Filter and a DG exhaust system. It has been bored out a little but my dad cann't remember to what. What else can I do? Does anyone know anything about the DIAL A JET? I'd really like to impress my dad alot, he was very reluctent to part with this bike, so any suggestions to make this classic zoom would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Those ATC's come with a pretty sweet and large carb to begin with so I would say your safe there. I would get a set of Reeds and probably look at getting your cylinder ported. For the Reeds (I know I sound like a broken record) I would get a set of G3 from 1DirRacing. I talked to them about my buddies 83 ATC and they owner william told me that they are still racing the ATC's. So that tells me they know what they are talking about. Also if you can find one you can get a Roost Boost from Answer I don't think they make them anymore but it did give a little more power to my buddies 83.

The other thing you can look at which is pretty cheap to get is sprokets. I would call some one at Sidewinder and ask them what they think you should go with and just tell them your looking for hill climbing power. It will make you loose some of you top end but if you want to make it up that hill that is what you need.

Hope this helps

Unfortunatly DG Is one of the only aftermarket exhausts still being made. It did help my buddies 83 nothing compared to if they had a LRD or something like that.

ok well you said willaim at 1dr racing still races the older ATC250R's right?? i'd say call him to get the reeds and maybe ask him bout exhaust for it?? if he's racing them he's surely not using a DG pipe. that or ATCsteve will probably know something bout this

Well I order a set of carbon fiber reeds, a carborator rebuild kit, and exhaust for it already. I would have thought that the DG system would've been better. It sucks because thier the only company making aftermarket exhausts for these air cooled models. I'll get in touch with 1DirRacing and ATCSteve. Thanks for the info.

ok,the D.G. is the only pipe that will go on the same side as your stock one.they"D.G." generally suck but,Ive had good luck with the D.G. 2 pipe&silencer.good low end power! stock carbs on 81-82 were28's and on 83-84 they were 30's.I put a pwk36 on my 81 and a spacer w/carbon fiber mid-reeds.it took some jetting but it screams.and like banshee said, try a 11 or 12 sprocket up front.maybe a little wheelie prob off the line but its worth it.if you want real power you need porting and a good drag pipe.P.S. you can put a good pipe like paul turner or something else for the 85-86 on,but it takes a little work!
