| I just baught a 99 cr250...now i havent had a mx bike in about a year and before taht i only ever owned one for just over a month so im still learning. I need to know what other people who have a stock 99cr premix their gas at...should i use premium gas?? Is there any kind of plug i can get taht doesnt foul as much?? I premixxed the gas at thirty four to one..i figured better to have to much oil and foul a plug than to not have enough and seize her up. Also who makes the best pipe for this bike? And last but not least im used to atv tires and i've had enough to know what kind of compound each is going to have but dirtbike tires and which brands to choose etc are new to me...so i need a tire that is going to be good in just about any kind of offroad terrain you can think of but i also want something that wont wear out so quickly. Stupid questions i know but im strapped for time and the easiest thing for me to do is just make a post on here. Thanks for any help. |

| Bills pipes are sweet for hondas. Other good brands are pro circut, doma and the fmf sst is a good pipe for a 250.

| I have a close to stock 99 also. I run 32:1 Motul 800 with premium pump gas. I also have a Gnarly pipe and Boyesen Pro series reeds. The bike pulls very hard from the very bottom through the midrange. It flattens out a bit on top. I prefer more low end anyway for hillclimbing. I also now have a 12oz. flywheel weight which makes the bike almost stall-proof on tight trails. Bike is virtually bullet proof and keeps up with just about everything. |

| ALWAYS run at least 93 octane premium. You might experiment with a 50/50 or even pure 100 octane race gas also, although anything much above 100 octane may well be overkill unless you have a higher than stock compression ratio. I use Honda HP2 full synthetic racing 2-stroke oil at 32:1, the bike runs very fast and clean. Although it is trendy to use a fancy aftermarket oil ($$), Honda synthetic oil is extremely good and a little cheaper than some aftermarket brands also. And don't put around too much on a 2-stroke MXer, that will tend to lead to more frequent fouling.

| I have never run anything over 91 octane in any bike of mine. Unless there is very high compression it's completely unnecessary. 91 octane is the highest octane pump gas available in California. Any good synthetic oil will work well. Also, if you are not revving the bike much, and just putting around, consider running a hotter plug., it will run a bit cleaner. Even without a hotter plug, with a properly jetted bike, you should NEVER foul a plug. I can play around on the trails all day and never open it up, and have yet to foul a plug in 5 years. |
