Default New Member, 89 cr250 Compression info?

I would like to say hi and great site you have here. Awhile back I had bought an 89 cr250, it had clutch problems and starting issues but I got a good deal, well I fixed the clutch, but my starting problems are as follows, I can kick and kick and kick and not get this bike to start however It will bumpstart really easy and runs great, will wheelie in 4th gear no problem. I talked to someone else and they suggested doing a compression check which I did and I got 140, I then added a cap full of oil and got 152. Now my question is what is the compression supposed to be? Does this sound good or bad? Also does anybody have any other suggestions on my starting issue?

Im not sure what your compression should be as i own a 86 cr250, But i can tell you this,

Compression is how the "MIX" is compressed by the piston inside the barrel right before the sparkplug goes off and burns it, If it was a problem with your bike, it either wouldnt start or be very weak.

My CR has always been a "|BEEP" to kick, bump always works best,

ALSO what was your clutch problem, My one currently wont work at all and i dunno whats wrong or how to fix.

Thats what I figure, but everyone keeps telling me that it wont kick over with low compression, but it will bump start and run completly fine with low compression. I am no stranger to motors as I have 13 cars, over 10 trikes, numerous motors etc etc etc.... But everyone tells me that is a characteristic of these motors.

As for the clutch, I first realised that I had grooves worn in my outer clutch basket so the plates were not sliding nicely so I smoothed them out with my dremel, but ultimately the problem was the arm that the cable attaches to on the motor was severley worn and once I replaced it Everything was good

Anybody know why I cant do a search on the board as it says I dont have permission?

I just bought an 89' cr250 myself and have been busily rebuilding it due to some similar issues.... i have a few questions as far as what to torque my head nuts at.. and several other questions..

1.will running radiator flush (aluminum radiator safe of course) harm my engine or radiator in any way?

2. What should the spark plug be gapped at

3. Any general advice would be appreciated
