Default Newbie question

First off, I am a complete newbie to the 2 stroke motor. I have owned 4 stroke's as well as every one of my riding buddies.

I bought a 2002 KX125. It does not idle, I was told to simply adjust the idle screw to make it idle. The motors all stock, so is the jetting. I believe its running properly other then this.

The question : Are 2 strokes even suppose to idle? Just sitting in neutral, is it a good idea to let it idle to warm it up etc. Does this foul plugs? Some input, or even links to some would be greatly appreciated.

Is 32:1 a good premix ratio? Should I go to 40:1 or continue with 32:1?

Thanks,

Paul

If it is jetted right the bike should be able to idle for a long time. Its good to warm all 2 strokes up because of the cylinder expansion. If it runs good with 32.1 i would keep it there. Dont baby the twos strokes, ride it hard and you will be fine.

yep 2 strokes should idle just like anything else does, and definatley warm it up before riding it, i cringe when i see people start up, rev the shit outa it a couple times, then just take off WOT, your ratio depends on your brand, better synthetic oils dont need to be ran as rich , and like burgie said, dont baby it, once its warmed up and runnin good, ride it like you stole it, especially a 125, gotta keep it "on the pipe"

Make sure you warm it up and maybe ride it around a little before you adjust the idle.

And yeah, ride that bike hard. 125's have no power unless it's in the powerband. 32:1 is fine, if you start to foul plugs, which you wont. I ran 50:1 full synthetic in my yz125 but i got away from Amsoil Dominator. I like the smell of castor oil and amsoil leaves some unburnt crap behind. Not harmful but castor oil smell awesome!
