Hi from western mass,
I found this site and seems to be a ton of info ect on here.I own a few sleds and recently picked up a 87 lt250r.I have not been thrilled with the quadracer so far seeing I have spent more time working on it than riding it. I was in the four stroke thing for a while and figured I would come back to my roots the good old simple to repair two stroke

Welcome to E2S. You will find all your lt answers here. Yes, you might be working on it more than riding it right now but remember it's 22 years old. Post some pic's and let us know what the issues are and we'll help you get it going.

The quad has been a pain in the a** since I bought it a month ago.I rode it about twenty min and let a buddy take it for a ride,he brings it back and engine is racing, like wot!!. I pull the carb off the carb off ect and found the intake boot to have signs of dry rot. I ordered a oem boot with a mint reed cage (ebay) and new set of boyesen reeds. Did all said work with a rebuild kit for the carb and it still did the same thing. Did some more research and I am leaning towards bad crank seals. The carb is properly jetted for the fmf exhaust system, seems like I have a vacuum leak and I have no way to pressure test the enigne. I am probably going to pull the enigine this afternoon.

First off....Welcome to E2S....You will find all of your answers here!!
Seconds: Nice Machine, Don't let your friends ride it!!

About your machine: Its good that you have narrowed it down, It does sound like you have an air leak. I would build an air leak tester out of some PVC ends & some rubber.
The crank seals are a problem expecially if there origional. Except it seems like it would be a beast to start.
Have you checked your key to the flywheel??

Also, if your looking for more power, Ditch that DG header pipe & look for a Power Pros, PT, FTZ...etc.
Both the FMF and the DG are just above the stock header in preformance for the 87-90 lt250r's.

The crank seals are my thoughts seeing the quad is 21 years old and I really don't know much of the history of the machine.I have not checked the flywheel key but it is something i will look into.I did install new rings on tuesday the piston is 50mm over stock and looked to be in great conditon, the lower piston ring did have me worried, thats the reason for replacment. The dg exhaust is gone,I won a fmf exhaust off ebay,(for $5.00) with a small ding that has been repaired.
