| What up Rob? I'd like to lean it out but I'm afraid of burning a valuable piston. I know it's safe to run rich but right now I need to hang a drip bucket off the exhaust ![]()

| look for the normal signs on the plug. you need twice as much alcohol so you jetting must be increased. twice the orfice size, not twice the jet number, there is a formula for finding the surface area of the jet. alcohol is more forgiving that gas, if your tune up isnt dead on engine will still make decent power. you engine should run cooler as well. the good thing about having an air cooled motor on alky is if she runs a lil hot, you just increase your jet size a lil bit and she ll cool right down. egt is best way to tune. good luck |

hmmm...........Alky is more forgiving than gasoline????????? Guess you must have a gas motor.. If you run an alky motor too lean, say good-bye to that piston. EGT is the most accurate way to tune but if you don't have one or two (for a shee), then run the motor rich and lean out as go. As for tuning by the plug, Gasoline motor (yes) --Alcohol motor (well...not really) unless you have 5 bottles of oil in the fuel or the motor is so rich that the mesquito's are are in your neighbor's yard. (Lean the motor out til they come back to your yard!)

| With alky motors, they tend to load up at idle because of the jetting. You will hafta run the bike thru the gears. You can't judge the jetting by just revving the motor. It's totally different from a gas motor.
