do u continue to hold the throttle wide open after you cut the engine?

i dont think it matters.... if you run it wot.... then killl it wether its open or closed it does not make a differ cause its not running

Hold the throttle WOT after you kill it.

As long as the engine is spinning, spark or not...it is pulling fuel.
You do that so it can continue to pull fuel even though there is no spark...and fuel/oil lubes the bottom and top end.

Just to add to the good advice here, it is not necessary to go up to top gear. The important thing is here is to rev the engine up while in any gear, so that you get a good burn on the plug. Immediatly kill engine and release throttle simultaneously. You are trying to guage what the combustion chamber is doing at wide open throttle (WOT). You rev up to limit, so that you burn off any fuel/oil mix that may of gummed up plug. You than immediatly shut off ign and throttle so as to limit any more fuel coming in, and leaving an accurate mark on the base of the porcelan.

so you ride it up to running temp... put a plug in start it up and immediatly go through the gears to 5 and then cut it out??? or do you ride for like a minute and then go to through the gears to 5 and then cut out?
