Exclamation carb overflowing

i have a problem with a dirtbike, its a suzuki sp250 enduro, it is a 4stroke tho, i know this is a 2stroke forum, but i dont know anywhere else to get any advice about it, my carb is overflowing out the bottom overflow drain, it is starting up fine cold on the first or second kick, i will take it about 500 ft and it will die out and gas will be pouring out the overflow. I guess knowing the bikes history may help figuring out wat is wrong with it. I bought a 1982 suzuki sp250(Z model) from one of my freinds, wen he got the bike he got it from some guy who was goin to throw it out, he said that his son had stopped riding it after he left for college or something, i got it and it had some surface rust over the engine and frame, i cleaned that up and it looks liek new, however the carburetor had been pretty clogged, i had a freind who is a mechanic clean it for me, for somereason he went too big on the pilot jet, he went to a 47.5 i believe, so it was carbon fouling plugs almost every time i started it up, it didnt idle if i didnt adjust the idle adjustment all the way out until the screw would come out, even then it was still barely staying alive,i thought my mixture was too rich, but my airmixture adjustment screw was stuck, so i soaked it over nite in a container filled with gas, i asked one of my freinds who is pretty good with fixing bikes and he suggested it to me, after i got that unstuck i adjusted it all the way lean and the bike was still running poorly and carbon fouling plugs, so i did some research and came to the conclusion that my pilot jet must be making the mix too rich, i figured this out and got the stock sized pilot jet (42.5). i put this in and my bike ran perfect, but from adjusting the airmix screw all the way lean i had forgot to adjust it back in, and it had rattled out and got crushed on my driveway, i found a rebuild kit and i replaced that. Now this is where my problem is, since i had the rebuild kit i figured i might as well put the rest in, i am inexpierenced at this and i dont know too much about it, i asked a freind and he bassicly just said u take it apart and spray it down and clean everything and replace all the jets and pieces, i opened it up and cleaned the float bowl piece, then removed the pilot jet and main jet and the mainjet's washer that was underneath it, and srayed carb cleaner there, i then removed the floats by taking an awl and punching out that pin that holds it in, i then removed what i believe is the float pin, it is a thin metal wire that wraps around and goes up and down on a shaft into another cylinder which has an o-ring around it, i replaced this and cleaned out the area it went into, i could not figure out how to remove the slide or needle or any parts up on the topend, the slide is not one of the carbs that has the throttle cable come through the top and directly attach to the slide, there is no cable on the slide, it is in a big rubber thing, it almost looks as if it is designed for some sort of suction or some kind of other air reasons, i was tryin to figure out how to disassemble this and replace the parts, and i was spinning the needle on the slide to see if it would unscrew, it didnt and i gave up and put it back together, now i forget if i had takin it apart once after my airmix screw fell out, but i think after the time i put most of the rebuild kit parts in, my carb has been pouring fuel out of the overflow drain at the bottom of the carb. at first i would just have to shut off the fuel at the petcock valve, which i may add that i belive it is in kinda shitty condition, at one point u couldnt move the lever from on to off to reserve without a pair of pliers or vise grips, and i do have an inline fuel filter put between the petcock and the carb. after i shut off the fuel it stops leaking and runs fine again, i turn on the fuel a couple minutes later and it was being tempermental and sometimes would start leaking again immediately, or it would not start leaking immediatly and would start leaking a couple minutes later or not leak at all, this has been happening for about a week after i put in most of the rebuild kit, and for the last 2 days i will just turn it on and ride down the road and it will shut off and leak gas out of the bottom overflow drain, i will have to turn the fuel off or gas will continue pouring out, after kicking it about 40 or 50 times it will start, or if i let it sit for about 10 min it will start up after a couple of kicks, could i have done something wrong when putting in the rest of the rebuild kit? and how should i fix this problem?
