| few minor tweaks will keep the KX in the game. but if your planning to get into racing an updated bike would be the ticket. for a trail rider the kx is plenty

| 265 big bore, porting, 38mm carb, pro curcuit pipe, VForce reeds, michellin star cross tires, new chain and sprockets (2 up on the rear). Not many other bikes out there are gonna compete with that. What year is your bike? looks like a 96.

| its a 92.... when i got it...it was pretty beaten. So far I got a used back wheel (so I could ride it) new front black plastic (planning on going all black) uni filter, msr aluminum bars throttle tube grips. Im getting a pro circut platnum pipe within the next couple weeks, after that Im boring, sleeving and porting. Also got a new swingarm I havent put on yet. Thanks to Bikebandit.com I will be kinda piecing this thing together. each payday...I will be sure to take pics of all mods as they come. |

| If you sleeve it have the porting done 1st then have them match the sleeve to the porting. You should talk to Denny about it (I could be wrong) but L.A. Sleeve did the proting on my old race bike and then matched the sleeve and flow polished it. It was absolutley beautiful. Insane power... hands down the best money I ever wrapped into that bike. Get rid of your tiny little carb and put a PWK 38mm carb on it. You will be totally impressed by the bigger carb when you get it jetted out. Your engine will rev out much better, the pro circuit pipe is a top end pipe anyway so the bigger carb will really help.

| Well I personally would buy a 90-96 KX250 motor if I could find a good deal. Have you ever split the cases? The lower end won't last forever but it depends on how much you ride and how clean you keep the filter and so on. How much of the work can you do on your own? That can save big bucks. There should be big bore/ stroke kits out there. Corey Sprock or Eric Gorr maybe? 265-310cc? A 310cc would likely need case mods and be costly but it would be brutal. Hell a KX500 Motor will fit too. But a top end steel sleeve with porting, v-force reeds, pipe, new carb needles/seat, wouldn't break the bank. If you take the stator cover off and pull up and down /side to side and there is any movement at all then I would replace the main bearings and rebuild the crank. |
