if you really worried about vibes, just get rubber mounts, anti vibe stem, and flexx bars

I've got a link here for a KX500 cylinder and head modified to a Tecate 4's bottom end really nice project and written out well. Answer's alot of questions about if the engine will hit the gas tank or the piston weight damaging the crank. Here are some pictures from http://www.tecateconnection.com/ProjectKX500.htm

The site has a bunch of Tecate info and products for sale.

thats corey sprocks site... form sprock racing.. and the guy that did the work on those cases is dave roberts form IRL performance.. both very knowledgeable tecate guys... hell just kawisaki guys in general...

all i said is what i have heard from guys that built these machines in the past.. the thought of riding somethign liek that is better than the outcome is what i have heard fomr more than on 500 powereed tecate owner.. same with hondas.... the honda guys have gotten it down a bit better... at the very least you'l need to rubber mount the engine... the vibrations eventually break the engine mounts... thats a FACT... but none of us are going to deter you fomr your project... if you can build a 500 powered tecate that lasts... and doesn;t virbrate ur eye balls... great... i'll be asking you for some pointers.. because i'm sure it'll be a hell of a machine... to date... i have yet to see one the owner is happy with..

I had it all on my Lt250 conversion, anit-vibe stem, alum bars, bar snake, foam grips and it wasn't enough to make it an enjoyable ride, plus it was constantly breaking mounts or vibrating things apart.

The counterbalancer weight issue is negligable.

The LT500 motor is very dependable, the only modification I would do on it is use brass retainers where the main bearings are. With a little porting/head modification the LT500 can run as good as a kx. Kx500 engines bring good money on ebay, part the whole bike out and find a complete LT500 quad between 1-2K and transfer everything over.

I know this isn't the information one would want to hear about their project. But I am just shooting ya strait and trying to save you from alot of trouble and grief. Here in the west with tons of big dunes and sand this conversion was tried ALOT in search for more hp. Everything was researched to make it work but in the end the bike always ended up getting parted out or sold. Sounds like you are pretty far into the build anyhow keep us updated.

Its a zilla motor in a LT250, a very common swap.

The 'ol KX500/Tecate conversion....

I had one. I bought it from the guy who built it. He had deep pockets, and no expense was spared. Fallicon did the entire motor, balance crank, etc. It still vibrated like hell. It was a really cool bike and it was REALLY fast, but the vibration made it not much fun to ride.

I wouldn't try to discourage anyone on a project, but after owning one I'd say the KX500/T4 conversion is more fun to talk about than to actually have. Just my $.02.
Go ahead on with it, you may love it?

You really want to vibrate? Try a CR500 motor in a 250R.

Good luck with it. Give us some pics!
