Default Vibration...

How much vibration do you Tecate guys get with your engines? Also, do you get kinda like a chatter sound? This is my first power valve motor, so I do not know what's normal.

Is this a tecate 4 or 3? With tecate 3 a very slight buzz is kinda normal for these machines. I think if your engine is in nice shape mechanically it is not too noticable. Not sure about the chatter you are talking about?

It is a T4. I am thinking that my counter balance is out of time, or that is what rockhound told me. I wander how hard it is to address that? I mean, do I have to split the case or can I do it through the tranny cover?

my kawis are kinda noisey at lower rpms.. kinda like a rattle or chatter...I am almost positive its just the exhaust valves rattling... because I dont have a counterbalancer, and all the important parts (rod, crank, piston, bore) are brand spankin' new...

Not sure what the clatter might be - mabey lower end bearings with too much clearance? But if you have Vibrations and Noise probably both are related.

The power valves are controlled off the govenor and closed until higher RPMs (if I remember right around 6000 RPM???) but if they are broken they could definately rattle around in there. I would recomend pulling the power vales and cleaning them once a season, as they build up carbon and break.

You can check your Ballancer timing by pulling off the clutch cover -

The ballancer gear is directly behind the water pump (it actually drives the waterpump) There is a timing mark on the ballancer gear and the Crankshaft gear.

There is a Dot on the Ballancer Gear and a Dot on the Crank Gear that you match up.

Thanks, helpful information. How do I adjust the counter balance if it is out of spec? Do I have to pull all of that out of the motor? I am going to be tearing into it this weekend anyway, to put in a new impeller shaft as mine is not quite true... which is also probably lending itself to the clatter...

Once you pull the clutch cover and verify that the marks do not line up:

You can remove the two bolts holding the spur gear to the Ballancer, you will see them when you pull the clutch covers to replace the water pump drive, Pop the ballancer gear off and align the marks, reassemble.

If the vibration just started - it's probably not your ballancer out of time. Only if the the lower end was recently put back together and did not time the ballancer to the crank - line up the two dots

Or possibly the crank gear was not timmed to the crankshaft when assembled. the crank gear has an outer dot that is matched to the Ballancer and an inner dot that is matched to the notch on the crankshaft.

This might get you going in the right direction depending on the cause of the vibration

TY TY TY... that is what I have been looking for. I actually bought this quad about like it sits. I have not been inside the case at all, so there has been some vibration since I have had at. It has not gotten worse, or better, just present. I got a drag race coming up at Big Lick in Oakboro NC in April... I hope to have this bike screaming by then. I have got parts coming from Rockhound, Kawasaki, and some other place where I scored some CHEAP oem parts. Maybe by Saturday night, I'll be kicking it over again...

Default Tecate Vibes...

Did you get the Vibration and noise sorted out? Was the ballancer or Crank out of time?

As luck would have it, I have not had time to do anything to it. Been out of town getting my learn on... I did ride it, jumped it, and broke the weld on the frame mount on the headpipe. So, I had exhaust coming through my radiator...lol. Fixed it though with some JB WELD... gotta love that shit... going into the motor tomorrow. Will update then, as I am replacing the intake, cleaning the carb, putting new idler arms and ball joints on, checking the balancer, and adjust the timing of the camshaft...

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL...
