Pull your clutch cover and at the end of the shifter shaft there is a spring that may have broken or is not attached .if all looks good there then it may be internal in the trans itself but in order for the shifter not to ratchet back to position makes it seem as the ratchet spring is the culprit..Pull a microfiche from a kawi dealer and it will show you how the spring should be attached..Good luck.......

k i got the cluch plates out but i cant take of the bolt that is right behind it. it spins freely soi cant get the bolt off. here is a pic showing what i need help with 1 is the bolt that i am getting off 2 is the thing that spins so i cant get the bolt off help.

You don't need to pull the basket yet. The spring that loads the shifter is on the end of the shaft that is in the lower left corner from the basket. Move the shifter and you will see what I'm talking about. That spring is most likely your problem or the forked end came off the shift star. But to remove the nut on the basket use an impact to spin it off. You'll have to flatten the tabs on the lock washer first. If it still won't spin off then you will need the clutch hub pliars. They look like giant vise grips will bent tips. Trying to hold the basket with anything else will break off some ears.
