Post 91-92 quadracer rear shock swap

I read a few post about replacing the rear shock with an LTZ 400 shock, one person said they were too soft other guys said it worked fine for them. I just did this on my 91 and here are the results. The LTZ 400 rear shock and the KFX 400 shock will both fit a 91 or 92 quadracer only. I bought a KFX 400 shock off e-bay for $50. The first problem I ran into was the open end of the shock (bottom) was too narrow. Needed 1/8 inch more to fit over the lower shock bearing, no problem, a few minutes on the grinder solved this issue. After I got it installed it had the ass end sitting ALL the way up and was stiff as hell. Would not hardly even move. Now for the fix. I removed the giant spring off the KfX 400 shock and replaced it with the spring off the quadracer shock, really easy. The only difference is the quadracer spring is smaller in diameter than the KFX. I put the spring cup off the quadracer into the spring cup for the KFX and it was a perfect fit. This gave me the right spring rate and a new 2005 shock with built on resevor for only $50 e-bay price. I had taken the original shock to get rebuild but the price was $220 because they said the shaft was pitted. Will not work on earler lt250's because they have a closed eye on each end.
Hope this helps somebody.

I dont think you can take the open end of the shock off because it has a rebound adj built into it. May cause you to lose youe fluid. I guess you would have to match a shock off of something else with the same dimentions. this is a 91-92 Pic.
