Default LT250R Problems

I have an 86 LT, Stage 3 port/Polish job, Shaved Head, DG Pipe, open K&N. Bored .20 over. My question is, why is it so hard to start. I usually have to spray carb cleaner into the carb or into the spark plug hole. Then HOPEFULLY it will fire, but stays running only for a few seconds, unless I hold it 1/4 way open throttle. Once its running, its fine. Its just that initial start. I understand that its not getting enough fuel when the engine is cold, but what is screwed up, the choke? I've never changed jetting or anything like that. It has always been a pain, previous to rebuild and even after the machining has been done.

I'm ready to give up on this piece of crap, more so now then ever, cause I'm building a +4mm stroker Banshee from the ground up and I almost have it complete. I don't want to give up on the LT cause I love beating 450's with it and I only have a couple grand invested it. Any help with my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys...

I think that you have some jetting problems... I would call the machine shop that did the work and see if they can give you some help on what it should be.. When i had my cylinder ported and the head milled they gave me a couple of jets to dial it in. If it is the jets their only a couple of dollars.

Default checking the carb

if i was u i would pull out the pilot jet which is next to the main jet see what size it is & bunp it a least one size after that i would check to see where the clip is at on the needle and drop the clip one to to groves if there are no lower slots then u may need a smaller needle

I agree with "gh500" take a compression reading on the motor. How old is the top end? If the rings are worn, it won't have enough compression to draw the fuel from the carb. Also check the reeds and it is a possibility the carb might be junk giving you a hard time. Check those things first before you decide to junk it! If you do, I'll give you my address so you can park it at my curb so I can trash pick it ! LOL ! Joe

If you just had a rebuild everything should be fine, Ive had this same problem after a rebuild. Move the pilot jet up 1-2 sizes and It should start right up. What company did the porting for you?
By the way Welcome to E2S, Dont give up on this lt250r!!!
