Default 87 lt250r clutch problems

Ok here is the problem. I had my engine bored new piston rings gaskets ect. I also had a new stator and flywheel put on along with a water pump gear and pin at a local shop. the cases wern't split but both side covers were off and clutch was taken out and put back in not replaced. I put the engine back in the quad myself and I went to hook the clutch cable up and I pulled the lever and clutch had little pull back or spring. so I disconected the clutch cable and was working the lever on top of the case back and forth and now the clutch has no spring what so ever. I now can move the lever on top of the case back and fortn 3/4 of a inch with no spring. what does this mean? Do I have to change the clutch plates? Can this be done without removing the engine? Any help would be greatly apreciated.

you have to load the clutch arm. pull the clutch arm off the pinion(aluminum arm, and splined shaft). put the cable in it,twist the pinion as far to the front as it will go(clockwise), then with the clutch cable adjusted all the way in, put the arm as far back on the splined shaft as it will go. tighten the clutch arm. adjust the cable free play. and now it should be all set. if you can follow that!
