Default 1986 LT 250R question

Hello,

My brother has a 1986 LT 250R that he is selling, its a basket case at the moment.

Myself, I am just starting my apprenticeship as a motorcycle mechanic, I have the skills and know how to put it back together, but, I am not quite sure if its a deal or not.

Bored 0.020 over
Ported
FMF silencer
Spare frame
Tether Switch
Spare rear tires
New pickup coil
Nerfs

Everything else is pretty mint, I helped him sandblast and prime some parts, and we were about to start painting when it started to turn really cold out and we couldnt spray in the shop anymore.

My brother has bought a car now and the tranny went out of it, so instead of finishing the quad, he was going to sell it to me as a basket case for $1100.00

Is this a good deal or no, I am more into vintage motorcycles and 3 wheelers, I do not keep up with quads that much anymore, nor do I know what they are worth.

Any help on this would be great,

Curtis

NO, this is not a good deal for a basket case!!! A basket case should be only a few hundred. Don't feel pressured into buying it just cause he's your brother!!!

I was looking at a 1987 honda 250R, it wasnt a basket case, but it was close to it, the motor was missing the cylinder, didnt have the front tires, no plastic, and it was in need of a total restore, it was going for about 2250, and it sold

2 stroke quads are hard to find in my area (not sure why) so I thought I might have got lucky this time.

I offered him 900 for him, but he shot me down.

When he bought it, it was all together, with a bad frame, so we ripped it down and i hooked him up with another frame, then he got a killer deal on a car, then the tranny went out of it, so he didnt have the time (or money) to finish the LT off properly, so i tried to buy it for 900, he said no, i offered 1000, he said no, then i said 1100 is the highest i will go, and he said ok, but he wants to ride it.

Thats too high, especially for an 85-86, around here you can find an 87-92 lt in decent shape for around $1500.
